SOS received a grant of $50,098 for its efforts in aiding victims of child abuse.
The grant is a portion of $934,591 from the State Children’s Advocacy Centers Grant Program, which helps Child Advocacy Centers across Kansas to help young children who have been victims of child abuse.
“Children’s Advocacy Centers provide a safe place for abused children to talk about difficult and frightening abuse,” Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson said. “I’m grateful these centers are available to our children and I am pleased to assist them in carrying out their important mission.”
The funds from the grant program can be used to support staff salaries, forensic interview or family support advocates.
“Children’s Advocacy Centers are child-focused, child-friendly programs that coordinate the services to investigate, prosecute and treat child abuse,” a press release stated. “The centers bring together a multi-disciplinary team that can include social workers, law enforcement officers, doctors, prosecutors, mental health professionals and victim advocates.”
SOS is one of 15 entities that received funds.
