Seasonal influenza vaccines are in extremely short supply in Emporia, with the likelihood of future shipments still hoped-for but not guaranteed.
Along with the short supply has come a spike in prices some medical entities must pay to suppliers for the vaccine.
“For vaccine right now, the cost is double or triple what it was when we put our order in back in April. If you can find it,” said Jami White, who is in charge of infection prevention at Newman Regional Health. “It’s very, very rare.”
Newman is out of vaccine for the general public and White does not expect that more doses will arrive.

Scary. I'm glad I got mine back in late September which is ordinarily quite early. At least I thought it was.
Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a lot of flu around town? Absenteeism at the schools was quite high last week,I don't know about this week. Several of my friends who work around town have reported employee absenteeism for flu.
Keep your hands washed and be careful out there.

I tracked down mine at the Medicene Shoppe. Everyone else was out which is ridiculous. This happens every year. We always run out, then get more later by then the flu has taken down many. There is NO excuse for it in my opinion.

Join the army. We've got all sorts of flu shots. And they're free.

stryker1_25,
Yeah, cuz getting the flu is much worse than getting hit with a roadside IED! Good point.

They're so busy making H1N1 vaccine, they've cut back production on the seasonal. The stupid thing is, by the time we get an H1N1 shot available here, we've all been exposed to it anyway. Two coworkers have had kids (in different districts) who got H1N1 this month. Both are fine now. I had to drive to Burlington to get my son's shot and got mine there too. My husband got his there recently and was told they had 6 doses left. My dr. wants my kid to get the H1N1 shot but no one knows when they'll be in. I'm not panicking, just doing the normal precautions earlier in the season. I'm just disgusted that they can't come up with a better way to produce vaccine than growing it in chicken eggs.
