Bud Light fan cans OK in Emporia

Thursday, October 15, 2009

An Anheuser-Busch InBev promotion offering Bud Light in cans featuring school colors has caused an uproar in some college communities, but the black and gold cans for Emporia State University don’t seem to be having that effect here.

Anheuser-Busch has dropped the promotion in communities where there have been complaints, according to the Associated Press. The cans have brought controversy at schools that have higher profiles, like KU and K-State, who cite trademark infringement as a primary objection to the cans.

Other objections include the fact that a large number of college students are underage, and there are concerns the cans could promote underage binge drinking.

The cans are still available in Emporia.

This is not a good idea for the company for the above stated reasons. If you are legal to drink and stay out from behind the wheel that is one thing. But making cans of this nature can only make them more desirable to the college age kids.
Unfortunately there have been many instances of underage drinking associated with college life and we have had to bury quite a few of the victims whether from alcohol poisoning or fatality auto accidents.

How about the beer companies promoting a safety program that deals with overdrinking, underage drinking and DWI ?

No, I'm on campus every single day and hear about drinking quite a bit...having cans in our colors isn't going to increase them drinking, they do it fine enough on their own. I think it's neat and would like to have some just for memorabilia sake and I have no desire to drink the beer inside.

I know I'm in the minority when I say I could care less about drinking, but I did my fair share before and after 21, and at 23 I'm done I feel like, aside from a glass or wine here or there or a drink socializing at a bar with friends.

Underage drinking, and freshman thinking they're part of the cool college crowd is never going to change, cans in school colors or not. It's a peer pressure issue, not a can color issue.

No one is seriously trying to attribute a color scheme to binge drinking right? If so, do you propose beer manufacturers deliver their product in a hideous paisley or plaid design?

KU and KSU are mad because they aren't churning a profit. The colors on the can are irrelevant folks.

Give it up Corbin. He is an adult and can make his own decisions, plus his mother is doing the job she's been hired to do and is good at it. I cannot understand the grudge you have against her. You most generally always look at the bright side of everything and everybody with the exception of Ms. Walters. It's time to GIVE IT UP.

I have no problem with the cans.
Now as for the contents....that's a different story.

Nobody,

You can pick your nose, and you can pick your friends, heck you can even pick your friends nose.

Please let me pick mine.

JohnDoe, you are spot-on with your statement: KU and KSU are mad because they aren't churning a profit.

So what does this have to do with Walters or her offspring?
