Alumni to be honored

Emporia State University will roll out the red carpet during Homecoming for the 2009 recipients of the Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Recent Graduate awards.

The annual Alumni Celebration Dinner will be Oct. 30. The reception begins at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Union Colonial Ballroom, with a dinner at 6:30 p.m. For ticket and pricing information, contact the alumni association at alumni@emporia.edu or call 341-5440.

The 2009 Distinguished Alumni are: Becky Hayes Boober of Holden, Maine; Randy Scott of Los Altos, Calif.; Harold See of Montgomery, Ala.; and Sue Swaim of Aurora, Maine. See short biographies at www.emporia.edu/saf/awards/disalum.html.

The 2009 Outstanding Recent Graduates are Megan Chalfant Burgess of Topeka, Mark Schmelzle of Valley Center and Jodie Kimball Leiss of Emporia. See their biographies at www.emporia.edu/saf/awards/outgrad.html.

Scott will present a talk, “Genomics and Personalized Medicine,” at 2 p.m. Oct. 30, in Brighton Lecture Hall. Presentations by other award recipients are being planned.

The Class of 1959, celebrating its 50-year reunion, will be honored at the Alumni Celebration Dinner on Oct. 30. The class invites classmates to its Golden Social at the Best Western’s hospitality room at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
