Northern Heights sophomore Kimberly Smith won the Osage City Invitational on Monday, and the Heights girls dominated the field to win the team title.
Smith was joined in the top five by three of her teammates. Freshman Savanna Chestnut finished third, followed by fellow freshman Ashley Heston. Junior Elizabeth Karr finished fifth, and all three runners crossed the line within six seconds of one another.
Smith, who finished with a time of 16:22, crossed way ahead of her teammates and 1 minute, 23 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, Lyndon’s Jenny Neuenschwander.
Chelsea Carr was the Wildcats’ final runner across, and she finished in 10th place.
Justin Heston led the Northern Heights boys with a sixth-place finish. Brian Hultgren finished eighth; Jon Lowder finished 13th; Dalton Rhoads followed in 14th and Matthew Parks finished 18th.
The Northern Heights boys finished in third place, one point behind second-place Silver Lake. Osage City won the team title for the boys.
Northern Heights travels to the league meet on Thursday at Council Grove.
