Emporia High’s soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Bishop Carroll on Tuesday in Wichita thanks to a goal from an unusual source: Cory Obermeyer.
Normally the Spartan goalkeeper, Obermeyer moved to forward with about 20 minutes left in the game. With about four minutes remaining, he got a pass from Agustin Armenta to net the game’s only goal on a cold, rainy evening.
“At practice he has been one of the best forwards because of his size, speed, strength, and aggressiveness,” Emporia coach Angel Cornejo said.
The Spartans (7-4-1) will host Shawnee Heights on Thursday at TRYSA.
