The rate of delinquent property tax payments increased this year, and county officials were not surprised.
“We budgeted that there would probably be a 3 percent delinquency, and it’s 3.4, so it’s a little higher,” County Treasurer Dora Hartig said last week.
“We have been running, oh, for many years, between 1 1/2, 2 percent uncollected, which is just really good,” she said.
Payments on personal property taxes, such as motorcycles and motor homes, seem to be keeping pace with previous years.
A total of $36,592.18 in personal property taxes remains unpaid, and $924,141 in real estate taxes remain to be collected.
