Symposium offers professional development

Monday, October 12, 2009

A discussion of “Changes, Challenges and Chuckles” will be the featured talk at the 15th Annual Women’s Symposium on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 101 Cottonwood St.

There will be a morning session from 8 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The two sessions are set up to allow employees to attend while maintaining office staff.

The Women’s Symposium is a professional development conference for women that provides educational and networking opportunities.

The keynote speaker for this year’s symposium will be Sharon Cheney, a registered nurse with a master of arts degree in adult and continuing education and post-graduate work in gerontology.

Julia Fabrees McBride, coach, speaker and facilitator, and Barb Rourk, wellness specialist from the Emporia Recreation Commission, also will speak at the symposium.

Registration forms are available at the Chamber office, 719 Commercial St., and online at www.emporiakschamber.org under the Applications and Entry Forms link on the left side of the home page.

The registration fee is $60 per person for businesses that are members of the Chamber and $80 per person for non-members, with a student fee of $30.

The registration deadline is Friday.

The event is open to the public and all women are welcome.

For more information, call Jessica Leeds at the Chamber, 342-1600.

A discussion on ol' ladies and how they like to waste money going to silly meetings will be the featured talk at the weekly Men's Symposium at your local bar.

The Men's Symposium is a "professional" development conference for men that provides educational and networking opportunities. Share your knowledge/experiences and laugh at one another's expense.

This week's keynote speaker is my buddy Jim, a local bar fly and 2-time divorcee.

Registration is free, but refreshments are not.

The event is open to the public and all men are welcome. (no ol' ladies allowed)
