Ribbon cutting
The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau will be host for a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Goodwill Store, 904 E. 12th Ave. to celebrate the grand opening of the store. The store will provide 10 to 15 new jobs, both full-time and part-time. Applications are being accepted at the store from 9:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Outstanding service
The Association of Community Mental Health Centers of Kansas, presented its Outstanding Public Official Award to Sens. Laura Kelly and Jim Barnett and Reps. Peggy Mast and Marc Rhoades for “their support of the public mental health system during the 2009 Legislature,” stated the news release.
The awards were presented Sept. 17 at the 30th annual conference of the Association held in Wichita.
Finalist
Westar Energy announced in a news release that the editors of Power Engineering magazine and PennWell Corporation have named the new Emporia Energy Center a finalist in the magazine’s “Project of the Year” award. The Emporia Energy Center is a finalist for Best Gas-Fired Project. Winners in each category will be announced Dec. 7.
Mary Kay car
Brenda Barrows of Emporia, Mary Kay independent senior sales director, earned the use of a Chevrolet Equinox crossover for oustanding achievements in operating her business. Barrows picked up her new vehicle — her eighth — from Longbine Autoplaza. Barrows began her Mary Kay career in 1993 and became an independent sales director in 1995.
The Mary Kay career car program has evolved since its inception in 1969 featuring pink Cadillacs. The program now includes the Equinox in silver, Chevrolet Malibu in gray and Toyota Camry in silver along with the exclusive pearlized pink Cadillac.
