Pittsburg State admission counselor to visit
A Pittsburg State University admission counselor, Terra Higgins, will visit Lebo high school students at 1:40 p.m. Thursday to talk about beginning their college career at PSU. Safeguarding U.S. Democracy
The League of Women Voters of Emporia announces in a news release the launch of “Safeguarding U.S. Democracy: Quest for a More Diverse Judiciary,” a two-year, statewide campaign focusing on the importance of diversity in ensuring fair and impartial Kansas courts. There will be a public forum from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 17, Kansas League Day, at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave., in Topeka. The question will be “Does the Kansas Judiciary Reflect the Diversity of Our State? If Not, Why Not?” The featured speaker will be the Honorable Rebecca Love Kourlis, executive director of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System.

Those elected Oct. 7 to servce a two-year term on the Lyon County Extension Council’s Program Development committees are: District 1 — Agriculture, Kevin Wellnitz; Community Development, Cathy Lewis; 4-H, Joseph Smith; Family and Consumer Science, Janet Harrouff.

KSHRAB blog
The Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board (KSHRAB) invites Kansans to share their favorite research finds during Archives Month in October. The blog is at http://archiveskansas.wordpress.com. KSHRAB has designated this year’s Archive Month theme as “Historical Records are Everywhere,” stated the news release. The blog will help KSHRAB to collect information about the documents and treasures held by Kansas institutions — historical societies; museums; county government; library, college and university special collections and college and university archives. This information will be used in the future to create a directory of archives in Kansas.
Americus Housing Authority meeting
The Americus Housing Authority board will hold a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the meeting room at Americus.
The agenda includes the 2010 budget, tenant concerns and payment of additional bills. The next regular meeting will be at 4 p.m. Nov. 2.
