ESU blown out at Pitt State

Pittsburg — Emporia State came into Saturday’s game leading the MIAA in pass defense efficiency.

No longer.

Pittsburg State’s quarterbacks threw for a school-record 412 yards, four touchdowns and receiver Kendall Fisher nearly set a school record by halftime.

The Hornets lost for the sixth straight week, 44-14, and the game was all but decided by halftime.

Fisher caught six passes for a school-record 238 yards and three touchdowns, all three of which came in the first half.

Fisher was able to get behind the Hornet secondary and caught TD passes of 60, 92 and 23 yards, and the Gorillas led 30-7 at half.

Tyler Eckenrode had mixed results in his second start. Eckenrode completed just 14-of-34 passes; however, the ESU receivers struggled to catch the ball.

Eckenrode also didn’t get much help from the running game. The Hornets ran for only 78 yards on 35 carries.

Eckenrode finished with 191 yards, zero interceptions, fumbled once and was sacked three times.

Kevin Smart and Adrian Abner had Emporia State’s two touchdowns. Place kicker Dustin Andrews was 2-for-2 on extra points, his first career made PATS.

Emporia State dropped to 1-6 and 0-5 in the MIAA. Pitt State improved to 4-3 and 2-3 in the MIAA.

This is getting exciting... week after week not knowing who will win first, the Chiefs or ESU... Is it basketball season yet?

Coach maybe you should look at the percentage of receptions for each receiver it might tell you something. Doing the same thing each week and expecting a different outcome does not seem to be working. The quarterback change was only one of the problems.

By late afternoon on the 7th of November we will be 1-10, and with any luck Higgins will be looking for a new job.

footballeyes,

I'm not sure about 1-10. I would at least give them 2-9. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

Between ESU, K-State, and Kansas City, watching football this year is more like going to a comedy club than a sporting event.

I would agree with footballeyes. 1-10 is looking extremely likely.

Wonder what it will take to get Higgins out. Granted I knw he is an Alumni, but the blame for us losing week after week and being the laughing stock of the MIAA cannot rest on the shoulders of the players, the coaches need to take soem of the blame for poor coaching.

Coach Higgins, resign with dignity, u have been here 3 yrs and we are in my opinion worse off than when u took over.

Say no to hiring just because they are an Alum.

Guys, the team has 7 defensive starters out! I dont care who you are, KU. KSU, OU, take away that many starters on one side of the ball, and your not winning. Scream and yell, stomp your feet, but its a fact! To keep bashing the coaches and the program may make you feel better, but it doesnt help the team or the players! True fans support the team in all weather, not just when the sun shines.

Listen BigByrd, critics don't totally understand all of the circumstances coaches or players have to deal with.
It's very difficult to win in MIAA when playing 30 freshmen and sophomores.
