Chase County was outgained 225-204, but forced four turnovers and rallied to beat Council Grove 16-6.
The Bulldogs, as they’ve done all season, relied on their running game and out-rushed the Braves 153 to 48 for the game.
Johnny Lang scored both touchdowns in the second half for the Bulldogs and finished with 76 yards on 14 carries. Jesse Cole also had a good night carrying the ball, as he ran 17 times for 56 yards.
Quarterback Shawn Talkington added 21 yards on the ground and was efficient in the passing game. Talkington completed 6-of-9 passes for 51 yards and added a two-point conversion on the ground.
Defensively, Trenton Heathman had two sacks and Cody Peterson also had a sack. Talkington and Cody Simpson both had interceptions, and Chance Milward and Peterson both had a fumble recovery.
Lang and Ben Green tied for the team-lead with 10 tackles apiece, and Lang also blocked a PAT.
“We challenged the boys this past week after our disappointing loss and they responded with their best performance of the season,” Chase County coach Derick Budke said. “I could not be more proud of their effort and performance.”
The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 on the season. They will travel to Peabody-Burns next Friday.

Olpe 48, Uniontown 0
Olpe continued its undefeated season with a win over Uniontown in non-league play on Friday night.
For the Eagles, it was the ground game that coach Chris Schmidt wanted to emphasize.
“It’s nice see us stick to the ground game and grind it out,” Schmidt said.
And grind it out they did, as they finished the night with 35 rushes for 320 yards. They averaged 9.1 yards per carry and five Eagles carried the ball for more than 25 yards on the night. Linden Stueve led the way with 10 carries for 147 yards, averaging 14.7 yards per run.
“I thought our kids executed well, but the numbers, we ran the ball well,” Schmidt said. “We got good blocking down field and Linden got some good gains. Linden has been consistent all year. We were able to run to the outside and he made some good cuts outside.”
Bradley Argabright broke off two big runs for 50 yards. Quarterback Matt Redeker had six carries for 34 yards and Tyson Pettijohn added seven carries for 30 yards. Redeker was also very efficient through the air, completing 4-of-6 passes for 66 yards.
Olpe scored on runs by Stueve, Pettijohn and a 24-yard passs from Redeker to Tanner Burenheide to build a 21-0 advantage. In the second quarter, it was more of the same, as Stueve broke off a 43-yard TD run. Argabright added a five-yard TD run of his own.
In the third quarter, Redeker had a rushing touchdown that was followed by a three-yard touchdown run by Khamis Naser in the final quarter.
The Olpe defense held Uniontown to only 50 yards of total offense. The Eagles shut down the Uniontown run game, allowing only 20 yards on 22 carries.
“On defense, we were solid and they like to run it at you,” Schmidt said. “I thought, by the numbers, we did a great job.”
Olpe will put its unbeaten streak on the line again next week against Maranatha.

Lebo 52, Southern Coffey County 6
The Lebo Wolves pushed their record to 6-0 on the season as they rolled to a mercy-rule victory over Southern Coffey County.
Coach Butch Jones said it was the defense that got the ball rolling for LHS.
“I thought our defense played really well again tonight. We had one breakdown, but other than that, I thought we played well defensively,” Jones said.
The defense shut down Southern Coffey County, allowing only 131 yards of total offense. The Wolves excelled against stopping the run, as SCC gained only nine yards on 18 rushing attempts. They sacked the Trojan quarterback seven times.
They also took advantage of two SCC fumbles, setting up short drives.
“It’s always easier when you get to work with a short field, and the defense did a good job of setting that up,” Jones said. “I thought we did a good job of taking advantage of their turnovers.”
Lebo’s only breakdown came after a three-yard touchdown run by Cole Brockelman. The Wolves allowed a 59-yard touchdown pass, which would account for more than half of SCC’s passing yards on the night.
Lebo responded with a 16-yard TD pass from Trevor White to Alex Linsey. They followed that up with two Brockelman TD runs and led 32-6 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Linsey caught a 50-yard pass from White. Calvin Perry and Blake Davies each scored touchdowns in the the third quarter to end the game.
“Our offense did a good job tonight, our backs did a good job,” Jones said. “I thought we played really well from the start of the ballgame.”
Lebo will try to stay unbeaten next weekend when they travel to Hartford.

Madison 44, Hartford 8
Last week, Hartford hung with undefeated Crest for nearly two quarters. On Friday, Hartford could only keep up with Madison for a quarter.
Madison showed multiple threats in the backfield and Hartford struggled to slow the Bulldogs’ strong rushing attack. Zach Nowell ran the ball for 107 yards to help Madison push through Hartford’s 3-2 defense.
“Hartford threw a different kind of defense than we’d seen yet this year,” Madison assistant coach Tracey Griffon said. “I think we adapted well, and the threat of Henry Ott running kept them off balance.”
The Madison defense was another big factor in the Bulldogs’ sixth victory, shutting down a high-scoring Hartford offense by forcing three turnovers. Madison held Hartford to only 39 yards on the ground, thanks in large part to its strong play on the defensive line.
