Students, families invited to celebration

Friday, October 9, 2009

The Flint Hills Technical College Adult Education Center have a celebration for students and their families from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 17. The evening will be include food, fun and live music provided by Between the Line band at the FHTC Conference Center, 3301 West 18th Ave.

“This event is the first of four celebrations we are planning,” said Kelsey Ortiz, director of the adult education center. “We wanted to create opportunities to celebrate our student’s achievements while at the Adult Education Center and create more community awareness about the services that we provide.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased at Town Crier, Emporia Main Street, Plum Bazaar and the FHTC Student Services Office. The event is being sponsored by General Schuman Electric, Plumbing by Spellman, Casa Ramos Restaurant, China Buffet and Ru Yi Restaurant.

The adult education center provides a variety of services to the community, including English classes at three different levels — beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Students are assessed upon entering the program to determine their skill level and are placed in one of the three levels accordingly. Targeted training for those looking for employment skills is also offered in the areas of manufacturing, health services and office skills. Students can also receive preparation for the Kansas State High School Diploma through the adult education center through Pre-GED and GED classes along with help in transitioning to college.

Individuals interested in attending the celebration or needing more information about the adult education center can call 343-4630.
