GLENDO, WHICH HELD its Fifth Annual Grand Masters Program. More than 100 people from around the world attended the event.
• Timmerman second-grade students who collected toys, clothing and supplies for children in Iraq.
• Randy and Jennifer Rethman who are the new owners of the Splash and Dash car wash on East Sixth Avenue.
• Emporia Police Department, which received a $17,258 from the U.S. Department of Justice to improve the police department record keeping.
• Organizers and participants of the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. The event raised more than $12,000.
• Emporia Middle School cross country team, which had 13 of its 14 runners set personal records at the Seaman Invitational.
•Jase Hubert and Brooke Schmidt, who were named Olpe’s 2009 Homecoming king and queen.
• Joel Young and Jessica Dhority, who were named Northern Heights 2009 Homecoming king and queen.
• Chance Mildward and Ashley Cahoone, who were named Chase County 2009 Homecoming king and queen.

you forgot Emporia and The Emporia Gazette. both of whom I watched on national television this week. thanks to both for giving me something to be so proud of. I no longer live in Emporia but I can't think of any other place I would want to call home.
