Festival cancelled

Organizers have cancelled Harvest Festival 2009 at Saturday’s Farmers Market because of forecast cold weather. The Farmers Market will proceed as scheduled beginning at 8 a.m.
Although cool weather has reduced the amount of warm weather produce, market officials expect plenty of fall vegetables, such as winter squash, turnips, greens, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, apples, melons, plus baked goods, james, jellies, eggs, honey and handcrafted items.
Said Casey Woods, director of Emporia Main Street, which was sponsoring the festival, “The Harvest Festival is a fun family event, but the weather this year is not conducive to many of the activities planned, including the live music, art demonstrations and games. We will try again next year.”
