Orchestra concert
The Emporia Symphony Orchestra will have their inaugural performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Albert Taylor Hall on the Emporia State University campus. A reception will be held in the lobby after the performance. Tickets are $5 general admission and $4 for students and senior citizens. Art exhibit
The Bethany Springer: “Showcase Showdown” exhibit continues through Oct. 31 in the Norman R. Eppink Gallery at Emporia State University King Hall.The closing reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Bruder Theater lobby of King Hall.
The annual ESU Art Department Faculty and Emeritus Faculty exhibition continues through December. The opening reception will from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Bruder Theater lobby.

The Lyric Opera of Kansas City will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. PIinafore” at 8 p.m. Nov. 6 and 14, 2 p.m. Nov. 8 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11at the Lyric Theatre, 11th and Central, in downtown Kansas City, Mo.
