Schwan’s fundraiser
Timmerman Elementary is having a fundraiser activity through Schwan’s. The Schwan’s truck will be at the school from 3 to 7 p.m. today.
Yard, bake sale for veterans
The Veterans of Foreign Wars men’s auxiliary will have a yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 932 Graphic Arts Road (VFW Post 1980). Items will include holiday decorations, books, craft items, dishes, clothing, tools, a bicycle and other miscellaneous items. The bake sale will feature “homemade goodies,” stated the news release. Proceeds will be used for the auxiliary projects.
Mini train benefit
The Sertoma Club of Emporia will sponsor a Mini Train Benefit Run from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Soden’s Grove Park. Donations only. All proceeds will go to the Ian Mose Children’s Education Fund. For more information, call Bill Christian at 343-4086.
Bazaar, soup in Neosho Rapids
The Neosho Rapids Memorial United Methodist Church annual bazaar and soup supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Neosho Rapids elementary school building. There will be games, a Big Country store, cakewalk, baked goods, pie auction, quilt drawing, along with drawings for many other items. There also will be a silent auction. Proceeds will be used for the United Methodist Women projects.
Tootsie Rolls
The Emporia Knights of Columbus will have the annual Tootsie Roll Drive on Saturday and Sunday at several locations around Emporia. Knights councils throughout Kansas also will participate in the event. Donations will be accepted. The funds collected are distributed to programs that serve people with intellectual disabilities. Eighty percent of the proceeds collected in the Emporia drive will be distributed directly to local organizations, with the remaining 20 percent of the proceeds used to finance the Kansas Special Olympics state basketball tournament and cheerleader clinic, stated the news release. The tournament and clinic are held each year at Fort Hays State University in Hays.
