The Lyon County Extension Council executive board will not seek to form an extension district with Chase County, Brian Creager, chairman of the board, announced this morning at the Lyon County Commission meeting.
In a statement during the public comment session, Creager said the timing was not right.
“While the Lyon County Extension Council executive board members feel strongly that forming an extension district would be an educationally and financially sound decision for the citizens of Lyon County,” Creager said, “it was determined that the timing was not right to pursue the issue any further at this present time.”

Finally someone understands that right now is not necessarily the best time to add taxes.

Don't you suppose they knew they didn't have the votes on the commission to pass it? This is a face saving move. For an organization that is becoming more obsolete every day they sure have a lot of wants. Leave the 4H and the gardening parts and let the rest go. The internet can provide much of the agricultural information as can seed, equipment, fertilizer and chemical suppliers. There is no way one local agent can keep up with all the technology in today's agriculture.

Pizza are you a farmer or in anyway associated with Ag?
The timing probably wasn't right but I don't believe there was going to be any new tax.
The way I interpreted it was that the mill levy would have been moved from the county to the extention district. No more tax just from a different entity.

It was move to allow them to obtain additional funds, without having the county commission telling when and how much they could have. Creative taxation would have followed.

Pizza- Your comments couldn't be more wrong. Extension offers a very important service and with the current economy their services are more in demand than ever! FACS teaches a lot of life lessons not only to youth but also to adults. Horticulture benefits everyone. 4-H promotes positive youth development and the leaders of tomorrow! Do you realize the impact of agriculture on our community? Many businesses benefit tremendously from ag!! Extension has something for everyone.

I guess Pizza is going to answer me so I will assume (and we all know what that does to us every now and then) that Pizza is not associated with ag.
I am therefore going to do it twice (assume) that YY4U isn't either.
There is much more to the Ext. office than 4H and preserving food.
Pizza may have been a little right about one agent keeping up with everything, but then wasn't that the reason they want to combine the agencies? It would have made them more cost efficient and better able to serve the communities.
People really shouldn't bitch about the extention office, 4H or farmers when their mouths are full of some of the best and cheapest food in the world.

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE !
I would ask Brian, Why is the timing to pursue this now better than back in 2009?
