Olpe cross country puts three in top 7

Olpe’s boys cross country team placed three runners in the top seven at last week’s Council Grove Invitational, and the Eagles finished second as a team to Osage City.

Lance Sadler finished fourth for the Eagles with a time of 16 minutes, 34.37 seconds at last Thursday’s run. Colby Nuessen finished sixth for the Eagles, and Colton Bess finished seventh. Also representing the Olpe boys were Ethan Hall, who ran 19th; Kyle Barnhart in 43rd; Noah Haag in 52nd; and Derrick Nuessen in 53rd.

Northern Heights’ Justin Hesston finished 16th, Brian Hultgren finished 33rd and Jon Lowder finished 49th. The Wildcats finished ninth in the team standings. Spencer Rosenquist represented Hartford with a 27th-place run.

On the girls side, Heights’ Kimberly Smith came in second with a time of 16:25.01, leading the Ladycats to a third-place team finish. Other Heights runners included Savannah Chestnut, 21st place; Ashley Hesston, 25th; Elizabeth Karr, 26th; Jasmine King, 39th and Chelsea Carr, 40th. For Olpe, Taylor Scheidegger placed 19th, Josie Herrick was 22nd, Katie Barnhart finished 38th and Katie Krueger was 50th.

Hartford was represented in the junior varsity boys race by Kevin Veatch, who finished 19th. For Olpe, Andrew Spellman finished 25th and Logan Faucette finished 42nd. In the JV girls run, Hartford’s Callie Clark finished sixth. Desiree King finished ninth for Heights, Megan Zimmerling finished 18th and Shannon Sprigler finished 26th.
