NBC to air Emporia television spots on Wednesday

Originally published 03:11 p.m., October 6, 2009
Updated 03:50 p.m., October 6, 2009

Newsman Tom Brokaw visited Emporia on Aug. 30 for his documentary “American Character Along Highway 50.” That documentary is scheduled for USA in January, but Brokaw has drawn individual stories from his interviews to use on other shows.

All segments air tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 7: 6:25 a.m. Morning Joe on MSNBC; 8:05 a.m. Today Show on NBC; between 5:30 and 6 p.m. NBC Nightly News.

Last week’s scheduled broadcast of the Emporia visit was postponed for breaking news.

The length will be the same but we think they are edited differently for the different programs.

Is this going to be about Emporia as a whole or just about the Emporia Gazette, that coincidently is printed elsewhere now and and the legacy of the Gazette ?

there is something about one news organization broadcasting a story about another news organization that seems, well, kinda lazy....I wish Mr. Brokaw had stuck around for awhile and discovered the rest of Emporia...

Having been a route carrier, route driver, assistant press operator, photographer, evening phone operator, writer, and cameraman for Catfish Cable I was surprised to hear about the demise of the press. I worked from the mid 50's to 1967, when the press was in the basement. At that time I worked for William Lindsay White, editor and Ray Call managing editor.
I was pleased to hear that Mr Walker is now the Editor. I sincerely hope that the Emporia Gazette will survive for many more years!

Wonderful story. A local newspaper _is_ the heart of a community, alancram. Keep up the good work! It's a hard decision to stop printing in house, but papers far larger than yours have had to make that choice just to stay afloat.

Good for you, reddog. Since you are such a concerned citizen, maybe next time you can park your blindly shiny, overpriced car within a foot of the curb (as per the law). Next time, I call the police just like I do for others who won't park correctly. It's a narrow street and a dangerous enough intersection. Of course, the way some of it's residents race down it, you may end up losing all of that shiny white paint to another car.
