Emporia blown out by Washburn Rural
Tuesday, October 6, 2009
Emporia High’s soccer team lost to one of Class 6A’s best on Monday night, giving up five second-half goals to lose 5-0 at Washburn Rural.
The Spartan defense was strong during the scoreless first half, but once the Junior Blues (11-0) got on the board with a Keenan Ankerholz goal about 17 minutes into the second half, the goals just kept coming. Kevin Thomas followed with another score about two minutes later, and Ethan Speake added another. Harrison Petrik and Anthony Schmiedler scored the Blues’ last two goals, with their final score coming with about a minute remaining.
