EHS tennis team finishes 7th at Centennial League meet

Emporia High’s tennis team finished in seventh place at the Centennial League meet on Monday in Topeka.
The Spartans, who missed a quad on Saturday in Manhattan because of illnesses, finished with 36 team points. Their best showing came in doubles, where Kaitlin Gile and Brooke Gutierrez teamed to finish in 11th place.
Gile/Gutierrez went 3-3 on the day, defeating doubles teams from Hayden 8-4, Topeka High 8-0 and Seaman 8-7 (7-2). They lost to teams from Topeka West and Manhattan by 8-1 scores and to a Topeka High squad 8-6.
Nancy Delgado won two singles matches to finish in 12th place. Delgado beat Topeka High’s Sydney Vinson 8-0 and Highland Park’s Kaley Edwards 8-3. She lost to Lexi Hertling of Hayden by an 8-0 score, to Junction City’s Molly Stuckey 8-3, to Manhattan’s Alicia Moran 8-4 and to Shawnee Heights’ Jessica Thompson 8-5.
