Angel Food has holiday box

Monday, October 5, 2009

Food boxes containing Thanksgiving holiday foods still can be ordered through Angel Food Ministries.

Local churches that work with the Angel Food program have announced order dates for October’s food boxes. Anyone can participate in the program.

Orders must be paid in advance and the churches accept cash, money orders and Vision cards. Checks are not accepted.

The Thanksgiving box will contain a 7-pound average Perdue roasting hen, 2.5 lb. boneless netted ham, 2 lb. frozen diced sweet potatoes, 3.5 lb. average frozen corn cobbettes, 2 lb. frozen green beans, 1 lb. frozen cranberries, 17 oz. ready-to-cook cornbread dressing, 8 count heat-and-serve large dinner rolls, 4.5 oz. brown gravy mix, 1 dessert (pie or cake) and 1 recipe sheet with scripture.

The signature box, at $30, will contain 1.5 lb. New York strip steaks, 1 lb. steak fajita strips, 2 lb. chicken stir fry skillet meal, 1 lb. lean ground beef, 1.5 lb. breaded white-meat chicken tenders, 1 lb. average center cut ham steaks, 1 lb. fish sticks, 1 lb. pasta, 25 oz. marinara sauce, 1 lb. frozen baby lima beans, 1 lb. frozen mixed vegetables, 2 lb. fresh apples, 10 ct. flour tortilla wraps, 32 oz. dry milk, dozen eggs, dessert.

The convenience box, for $28, contains 10 seasoned and nutritionally balanced fully cooked meals to heat and serve. Each meal comes with a starch and two vegetables or fruit in addition to the entrees, which are: roasted chicken, meat lasagna, salisbury steak and gravy, meatloaf and gravy, chicken chow mein, cheese manicotti, chili with beef and beans, boneless pork patty, fettuccini alfredo, lemon pepper baked fish, plus assorted cookies, sugar-free applesauce, vanilla pudding cup, apple juice, orange juice, and diced pineapple.

The allergen-free box, at $25, is processed to eliminate eight serious allergens — peanuts, soybeans, milk, eggs, fish, crustacea, tree nuts and gluten, an AFM information sheet stated. The box contains one pound each of chicken breast fillets, chicken nuggets, cubed steak, wings, and chicken tenders; all have been breaded and pre-browned in canola oil.

Bonus boxes, which may be ordered without purchase of another box, will contain:

Assorted 7-pound meat grill box — rib eye steaks, pork chops, lean hamburger steaks, bratwurst sausage with cheese, $23.

Assorted 4.5-pound steak combo — bone-in ribeye steaks, Kansas City strip steaks, T-bone steaks, $22.
