Ribbon cutting

The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau have a ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for Energy Innovators, Inc., at 719 Commercial St., a new business in Emporia. Jim Gartner is president of the company.

Energy Innovator s provides customized, cost-effective lighting services for businesses and building owners who do not have the time, staff, expertise or equipment to properly and safely maintain or enhance their own lighting systems. By retrofitting or upgrading to more energy-efficient lighting technologies, Energy Innovators can reduce energy demand up to 50 percent, stated the news release. The company also offers lighting maintenance services which improve energy efficiency and lighting quality. For more information, call 340-0331 or see www.energyinnovatorsinc.com. Ribbon Cuttings are free and open to the public.

Breast cancer month

Curves of Emporia, 1622 Industrial Road, is encouraging women to get annual mammograms and perform monthly breast self-examinations during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. Women who bring in a mammogram, performed within the last year, or make a $25 donation to the American Cancer Society will be waived from paying a service fee when they join Curves during one of the last three weeks of October, stated the news release from Curves. Also, Curves in Emporia will have available a home breast self-examination called the Liv Aid, which makes the breast self-examination process more sensitive for detecting unusual lumps. For every Liv Aid kit sold, Curves will donate one to another woman who can’t afford one. For more information, contact Sherry Davidson at 343-3400 or sherry@curvesofemporia.com.
