Eureka
The Eureka Herald reported that a new business came to town recently called Trackside, a bar located inside Eureka Downs Race Track. The bar will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturdays and on football Sundays with lots of televisions to watch a variety of teams.
Chase County
The Chase County Leader-News reported that USD 284 student enrollment FTE declined by 11 students since last spring. The school district submitted its final enrollment figures on Sept. 22. The figures reflect a decline in student numbers from 432 last spring to 422 this year. The FTE (full time equivalency on which funding is based) number fell from 417 last spring to 406 on Sept. 22.
Coffey County
The Coffey County Republican reported that the unemployment rate in Coffey County was slightly less than the state average during the month of August, according to figures released by the Kansas Department of Labor. The state unemployment rate was 7.1 percent in August, down from 7.8 percent in July and up from 4.7 percent last year. Coffey County recorded 6.8 percent unemployment in August, up from 6.6 percent in July and up from 5.3 percent last year.
Waverly
The Coffey County Republican reported that the Board of Education for USD 243 Lebo Waverly met Sept. 14. The board learned the district received $192,000 in stimulus money. The board earmarked $46,500 of the money to be used for technology.
