Taco dinner
The seventh annual Homemade Pan-Fried Taco dinner and sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Didde Catholic Campus Center, 1415 Merchant St. Dinner includes chips, Mexican rice, frijoles charros (pinto beans, ham, Mexican sausage, bacon, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, peppers), beverage and dessert. Dinners (dine-in or carry-out) cost $6; students with identification, $5; and children 11 years and younger, $4. Tacos cost $1.75 for one; $9 for six; and $18 for 12. Homemade baked goods also will be for sale.
Proceeds will be used to support the Didde Catholic Campus Center ESU students. The supper is presented by the Emporia Brown Express Athletic Club, the campus center, ESU students and ESU Karate Club. Sponsors are Navrat’s Office Products, Walmart, Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home and Reeble’s Country Mart and Price Chopper.
Burgers & brats
Northern Heights High School After Prom will be the host for a Homecoming hamburger and bratwurst dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the NHHS football field. Foods include hamburgers or brats, baked beans, chips, beverage and dessert. The cost for the meal is $5 each person. All proceeds will benefit NHHS After Prom activities. After dinner, the NHHS Wildcats and Lyndon Tigers will play football.
Pancakes
The Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave., will have a pancake feed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to benefit the senior center. Because the church that was renting the center is building their own building, additional funding is needed to support the center, said Susan Riley of the Senior Center. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children. Pancakes are all you can eat. Coffee or tea will be provided and extra sausages and beverages will be available for purchase.
Oktoberfest
Faith Lutheran Church, 1348 Trailridge Road, will have their 19th annual Oktoberfest from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Dinner (take-out available) will begin at 4:30 p.m. A bratwurst or barbecued brisket meal which includes two sides, beverage and dessert, is $7 each person. A hot dog meal, including chips, beverage and dessert, is $3 each person. Tickets will be available at the door or call 342-3590. There also will be a silent auction, homemade crafts, homemade candy, a “pie shoppe,” gift baskets and raffle baskets.
Fall festival
The St. Joseph Catholic School annual Fall Festival will be held Sunday at the school with dinner and games beginning at 3 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. Bingo begins at 6:45 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. There also will be a raffle with a grand prize of a handmade quilt made by members of the Quilting Corner. More than $1,000 in cash and merchandise prizes are available in the raffle.
The menu features ham, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, corn, sauerkraut, jello salads, pickles, beets, rolls, homemade pies, cakes or cookies, water, tea and coffee. Dinner tickets, purchased at the door, are $8 for adults; $3 for children six to 10 years; and $1 for children under six years. Carry-out meals are also available ,
Children’s games will be played during the evening. All proceeds benefit St. Joseph Catholic School.
Spaghetti for school
An all you can eat Spaghetti Dinner will be served from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the New Breck Cafe in Americus in support of the Americus PTO. Americus teachers and staff will be the waiters and waitresses. The cost for dinner, which includes spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, garlic bread and beverage, is $8.95 for adults and $5.95 for children under 10 years.
Chase County fundraiser
Tickets for “Round Up 4 a Child,” a Christian family oriented fundraiser to benefit children to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Chase County Community Building in Cottonwood Falls, are for sale beginning today. The cost is $5 for 14 plus years; $2 for 6-13 years; and free for five years and younger. Only 300 tickets can be sold because of the fire code capacity at the community building, stated the news release. Tickets will be sold at Jim Bell and Son in Cottonwood Falls. Remaining tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis, at the door.
Music, “Keepin’ It Country,” will be by Matt Engels and his band . Raffle items include a Humble Clay mug filled with Cottonwood Mercantile candy, a “Pink Stuff” basket promoting breast cancer awareness month and other items from area merchants. Door prizes valued at $20 or less also will include items from Chase County merchants such as Jim Bell and Son, Clark Farm and Home Store, Cottonwood Mercantile, Prairie Pastimes and others. It is not required to be present to win the raffle items as these chances will be sold before the event. The winners will be picked and announced at this event. Door prize chances will be given during the fundraiser and one enters by showing his or her ticket. The winners will be chosen and distributed throughout the evening.
The fundraiser is self sponsored through private donations and profits will be donated to ACRA (A Child’s Rights Association-achildsrights.com) and the local Chase County Food Bank, stated the news release. For more information, call Annette or Larry Sneary at (785) 965-7258.
