Support for Huelskamp

I HAVE READ with much interest the letters expressing opinions about congressional candidates in the First District. It seems that what really matters to many people, and certainly matters to me, are the basic qualifications and characteristics of the person who will eventually represent us in the U.S. Congress. Because that’s what really our representative is; someone who stands up for us here in the First District in the “beehive” in Washington.
To me it is just plain common sense that person needs the following characteristics:
1. Honesty and integrity
2. Proven track record of doing what they promised to do
3. Clear and concise on their principles — no double talking
4. Long term resident of the First District of Kansas
When I re-examine my list, the choice is very obvious to me. The candidate to represent the First District is Senator Tim Huelskamp. Tim is a Kansan from birth who never left Kansas to seek employment; he is a farmer in Fowler, Kansas, who just happens to hold a Ph.D. Tim never skirts an issue; he is honest about where he stands and he has a proven track record in the Kansas Senate. I want a representative to Congress who honestly represents me and (whose) honesty is rooted deeply in in the values and principles that we in the First District hold so close.

Emporia has not had a congressman since the days of Ed Rees and that was at least 50 years ago. Although Huelskamp has a lot of good qualities, I think Dr. Jim Barnett would better serve the Emporia area.

Huelskamp is not well described in #1 thru #3, in fact IMO he represents the very opposite. The only honest statement in the article is #4, evidently there is no one better willing to run against him or available to be elected from that district.
Sen. Huelskamp will not get my vote to be sent to Congress, and I would strongly encourage people to check his attendence record, committee placements, and his legislative resume while in Topeka(not impressive at all).

I have a question for anyone who may want to garner an honest answer to it !
Who in the political arena that touts themselves and prides themselves to be a person of honesty, integrity,Proven track record of doing what they promised to do, Clear and concise on their principles — no double talking, Long term resident of any district of any State ! How many of these elected officials have not been swayed or, corrupted if you will, by the power and influence brokers in Washington D.C that throw untold sums of money, gifts and favors at the elected congressmen/women after they have been elected to congress to do the bidding of these power brokers ?

Honesty and integrity...clear and concise on their principles....grand and noble sounding phrases that mean little without more definition. Proven track record of doing what they promised to do......okay so what did they promise to do......and once they promised to do it did they push on regardless in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
I was once told that you can tell all you need to know about someone by the friends he keeps. Based on the friends he has on here I think I'll just vote against this guy.

Let me try to clear up my previous statement for you. What I am saying is, it makes little or no difference how honest, forthright, concise, track record ( proven or otherwise) or how much integrity a person may have or say they have, the corruption and buying or cajoling of an elected official is so ingrained and rooted in politics that any honest man/woman who is elected to public office may eventually give in to the temptation of the promise of riches, etc., even the honest man/woman who is elected may become part of the status quo of corruption that is prevailant in most or all U.S. politics and government !
As to who I would like to see throw their hat into the ring, I have no answer . To me, anymore voting for someone is sort of like gambling . Its just a chance you take, nothing is guaranteed, though, most of the time much is promised !!
But I do know this, we all need to see some real and sincere effort made to clean up politics, government and laws need to be passed and enacted, that will end political corruption in all political arenas and government !
I do know however, that if , " We The People, ( All The People) wish to see a government that will work for the good and benefit of " All The People ", not just " The Few People " then those who want to or desire to run for public office will need, not only the following attributes,
1. Honesty and integrity
2. Proven track record of doing what they promised to do
3. Clear and concise on their principles — no double talking
4. Long term resident of the Country, State, County, City ,
but will also need to have a commitment to doing whats best for all the people, without thought to making himself/herself rich, regardless of how much bribe ( special interest lobby ) money he/she is offered by any domestic or foreign interest and have the attitude of not putting himself/herself first, but putting the best intrersts of all the people of the Country and the Country first !

perhaps one solution would be to never elect anybody to more than one term and elect nobody that was supported by a party machine.....any party.

I agree completely, 1 term, term limits and not only no party machines, but no special interest backing, lobbying or campaign donations and limit campaign donations to a certain, specified amount and limit so called " campaign war chest " funds to a specific amount, eliminate any and all slush fund moneys and strictly enforce all of the above !

We desperately need canidates that will stress limited government, fiscal restraint, opposition to further stimulus spending and a determination to go against a government that is too big, too intrusive and all to eager to seize power from the states.

Now see methusla here's where it starts to go wrong. We haven't even got started and already we have reddog here sounding like he's giving a platform committee speech for the Republican Convention. And this despite what we really received from the Repubs for the previous two presidential terms....as well as what we are getting from them now. It would be an uphill fight my friend.

Huelskamp saw to it his special interests and that of his peers were taken care of on the Senate Natural Resources Committee. He promoted bills that allowed himself, as well as a couple other Senate committee members who had ties to commercialized hunting, and those involved in commercial hunting operations to personally profit from the State's wildlife resources by selling Kansas hunting permits. This include tag brokers from other states. If the original bill they wanted to pass failed in committee, he and his peers would attach it to bills guaranteed to pass no matter what the subject matter of the bill addressed. He and a couple other members of the Committee knew how to add amendments onto bills in such a way that opposition to the subject matter would not be allowed to speak against it.
The Senator is part of a group of Western Kansas Legislators that attained seniority status in Topeka not by being great leaders or politicians, but simply because they have been there the longest.
I would fully support term limits, but I would prefer two terms not one. It takes some time to adjust and learn the process, two or four year term limits would guarantee that most positions would be in the learning process at all times.

When I mentioned 1 term, term limits, I meant that an elected official should serve just 1 term of either 2 or 4 years and that is all and cannot be re-elected again until he/she has been out of public office for at least 8 years ! Sorry, I should have been more clear in my orginial statement !

Do you actually think that Jim Barnett is the man that meets the qualifications that you put forth in your comment, on December 1, 2009 at 10:11 a.m. ?
I do not believe that Jim Barnett is the best man for the job !
My ideal person for congress or any elected public office, would be someone who doesn' t just go along with party lines or party thinking, one who thinks for himself/herself, one who will not be pressured into voting for what he believes is wrong, one who will not or does not sell his decision making, influence or vote to the highest bidder and one who has the backbone to stand up for what he/she believes is in the best interests of the country and all of the countries people and is not afraid to say " NO " or " VOTE AGAINST " any peice of legislation or law he/she believes is wrong or is not in the best interest of all the countrys people !
Now based upon my qualifications for an elected official, congressman, etc., that would leave Jim Barnett out of the equation and probably just about everyone else also !

If the cap and trade bill is passed, every town will come under a federal building code and if your home is not energy efficient with your windows, furnance and air conditioner, you will be charged with unlawful occupancy of your own home by the federal government. Tomorrow at the city commission meeting, which starts at 1:30, the city building inspector will introduce a resolution to bring Emporia under the international building code. As I understand it, if cap and trade is passed we will end up under the California Building Code. The one thing that keeps me going is humor. Do you know what one earthquake said to the other? It's all your fault. We do have a want for laughter in most situations, give or take a building inspector.

The pain of American factories will grow with national healthcare and cap and trade. I predict more American companies will leave our borders---soon. NAFTA will become known as SHAFTA. The banks are hoarding 3 trillion dollars. Do they know something we don't know? Gold will be 2,000 dollars this time next year. There is not one business that will escape the coming Federal Novacaine. To the elite, We are a bunch of numskulls. And just how many industries or factorys and their jobs left the U.S. during the previous administration, due to the fact that the previous " Bush " administrations attitude of, I don' t care as long as I ( all those in gov't who stood to make millions by allowing it to happen ), will be compensated and the previous administration was definately a less involved, do nothing, hands off administration, except when it came to an unnecessary war or wars, than any administration in history, except when it came to bailing out the hand(s) that fed it and there has been only 1,2 or 3 administraions in the history of the U.S. that have managed to cause as much strife to the U.S. citizen and taxpayer.
And reddog, do you remember who or which administration it was that started this whole bailout fiasco ? And if you will recall at the time the " Bush " administration announced the bailout, golden tarp program or shortly after, I basically said, that once this bailout, tarp thing started it would be difficult, if not impossible to stop ! Well I hate to say it, but, " I told you so " !
Less government is not the answer, a stronger, corrupt free, honest, do whats best for all Americans government is what is needed to start a turn around of whats wrong in the U.S.. And political partys, be damned, political partys and their agenda are also a real problem in U.S., State, County and local government !

The way everything is going, there will be a massive devaluation in the dollar. This is not a right wing black helicopter fantasy. In the last depression the government took away our gold. To say AMERICA has become a police state---to say government is trampling on the constitution---is a cliche. But to think that the government will stand by while 100 million people are being wipe out is very naive. The stock market is grossly overvalued and the piper must be paid. My opinion is the stock market is being manipulated by evil elite folks that are hell bent on destroying our country. The liberal teachers don't put this out. The wealthy foundations have ruined our education system.

If you have been reading most of my posts on this subject, I have said and will continue to say that the wealthy elite have been and will continue to buy this countrys government, its policys, and law making for quite a while now and will continue to do so, which is and will continue to destroy the very backbone and fabric of this country, which is the working poor and middle class taxpayer and therefore effectively, as you say, destroy this country, eventually !
Now does that does that make me as you say a liberal or a liberal teacher ! And I wish people would stop labeling people as Democrat, Republican, Conservative, Liberal, etc . I would like to be thought of as just a free thinking person or one of the " People " .
