Fundraising efforts to raise expense money for 4-year-old Braysen Butter and his family are continuing in both Chase County and Madison, where Braysen’s parents live.
He is the son of Jessica Butter of Madison and Tommy Butter and his wife, Carrie, of Strong City.
The Braysen Butter Medical Fund has been set up at Exchange National Bank, 235 Broadway St., Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845. Donations are being accepted for the fund, which also is a receptable for money raised through activities and events.
Current fundraisers planned are:
- Denise Bradshaw was host for the first in a series of Scentsy parties through dealer Kristi Thompson, who will donate a minimum of 15 percent of all sales from parties booked in Braysen’s name. Online purchases with the same 15 percent donation to Braysen’s fund may be made at www.scentsy.com/kristithompson. The left side of the Web page has a list of Braysen’s parties. Scentsy features warmers with scents for homes and businesses.
- A bake sale and hot chocolate sale is planned during the Chase County Christmas Lighting Celebration on Saturday, and the Strong City Pizza Hut will do a fundraiser on Dec. 12. Whether the pizza is dine in or carry-out, Pizza Hut will donate 15 percent of the sales to Braysen’s medical fund.
- Bradshaw also has planned a dinner and benefit poker tournament at the Cottonwood Falls Community Building beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 19. The meal will include barbecued brisket and ham along with side dishes and beverages. Prizes will be awarded to tournament winners. More information may be had by calling her at (620) 341-0535.
- Tiffany Harshman is organizing a chili feed with acoustic music from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Community Building. More information may be had by calling her at (620) 366-0556.
- Kansas Graphics has helped with labor in designing and manufacturing shirts that say “Team Braysen” on the front with a yellow ribbon that symbolizes childhood cancer. The back says “Hope for, believe in, dream of a cure for neuroblastoma.” The cost is $15 for an adult long-sleeved shirt, $13 for short-sleeved; $10 for youth short-sleeved; and $12 for youth long-sleeved.
- The shirts are on sale at Flint Hills Restaurant, Dave’s Place and other Chase County stores, and also are being sold in Madison, where a special event is planned for Braysen on Dec. 11 during a Madison High School basketball game. T-shirts, bracelets and buttons will be sold.
If Braysen is able, he will make a brief appearance at the event, wearing a mask to protect him because of his weakened immune system.
Braysen’s school in Madison already has held a little train ride and a pony ride to raise $1,700 for expenses.
“Madison and schoolteachers and parents in Braysen’s class, they have provided meals for us,” said Jess Butter. “They have been really, really good. ... The school has been going out of their way to stay informed.”
