Chili contest
Parade-goers Tuesday evening will be able to warm up with a bowl of chili at the Bonner Leadership program’s stand in front of Laser Expressions, 912 Commercial St.
Jasmine Greene is organizing a chili contest intended to bring in a supply of chili for the sale.
A $100 prize, donated by the Brown Express Athletics Club, will be awarded to the first-place winner in the contest.
The rules are minimal: one entry — a slow cooker full of chili — per contestant, with no entry fee. Chili is due at Laser Expressions by 6:15 Tuesday evening.
Members of the Bonner Leadership program will judge the chili before it goes on sale for 50 cents per cup, Greene said. Serving will begin at 6:30 p.m.
“Contestants will help serve, and the Bonner Leader program will be overseeing,” she said.
Organizers hope to have at least 10 entries in the competition, which will raise money for scholarships at Emporia State University. The contest is one of several activities planned in conjunction with the 2009 Festival of Trees at the Flinthills Mall on Dec. 5 and 6. Bonner Leaders are co-sponsors of the festival.
People who want to compete need to call Greene at (620) 481-7558 or e-mail her at jgreene@emporia.edu.
“Definitely, if I don’t answer, leave a message because I have classes all day,” Greene said.
