Sheriff’s office to buy new patrol vehicle

Thursday, November 26, 2009

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will replace an patrol car following a 3-0 vote of approval by Lyon County Commissioners during Wednesday’s action session.

The car replacement is part of a fleet management plan that the sheriff’s office maintains that replaces seven patrol cars a year before the mileage gets too high for a trade-in. Richard Old, Lyon County under sheriff, said this is the eighth car to be replaced this year and that there is enough money in this year’s budget to cover the purchase of a new 2010 Crown Victoria Interceptor for up to $22,000.

Old also requested another vehicle purchase and a K-9 insert for that vehicle. That purchase was approved 3-0.

In other matters, commissioners approved a Proclamation of Recommitment to Full Implementation of the ADA in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In other business, Marc Goodman, Lyon County attorney, told commissioners that a request by Newman Regional Health to expand the hospital board from seven to nine members and have the chief of medical staff serve on that board with a one-year term, could not be done as presented. Statute mandates that the term be no less than two years. Commissioners took no action on the issue.

why are we still using the old......gas sucking crown vics.....the sheriff needs to invest in some Chevy Impalas......or some Dodge Chargers.....all around the same cost.....and do away with those energy wasting rotating warning beacons.......led are the best and brighter and have more function programs..............also we need to get some of those new rumbler sirens........to be honest our police and sheriffs forces are starting to become outdated....if the city expects officers to preform their best.....then we should give them the best......they risk there lives.....that is the least we can do.......
