Niles earns athlete of week award

Emporia State guard Tim Niles was named the MIAA’s men’s basketball athlete of the week for the first week of the season.
Niles averaged 33.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in Emporia State’s first two games last week, including a 45-point effort in the Hornets’ double-overtime loss at Central Oklahoma on Nov. 16. Niles was 8-for-8 from 3-point range against Central Oklahoma to set an MIAA record for most 3-pointers in a game without a miss. Against Bethany on Nov. 18, Niles added 22 points.
