For the members of our Emporia School Board ...
Let’s see if I’ve got this right. The Kansas Board of Education has warned districts that they are forecasting a deficiency of $235 million for the state fiscal year ending in June, 2010. This would amount to about $150 less for every Kansas student, dropping state financing to about $4070 per student? This includes Emporia?
And going along with this, we hear from our local Board of Education that “because it is legal” and because the board feels they need to spend the money they have or they can get, they want to spend over a million dollars (maybe more?), however they can justify it?
Now, even though something is legal, does that make it moral? Of course there are many other actions for a person that are moral, but our society frowns on doing some other things. So do you really think that you can save our community by spending us into debt? Does this represent just your political and social mores, or does this also represent your personal economic views?
Either way, we now know that it’s Helena, HB, that we’re going into and not Helena, Mont. You can be sure that you will be hearing from your community when the next voting time come around. People will remember to vote “no incumbent” when they step up to the “machine.”
