The Iola Register reported in its weekend edition that Woodson County Sheriff David Waddell was arrested in Emporia on Wednesday.
Waddell's resignation as sheriff will be effective next week, the Register reported. The resignation resulted from allegations of official misconduct.
The arrest in Emporia was on a separate matter.
According to the Register, the Emporia Police Department reported that Waddell, 38, was taken into custody after a domestic dispute Wednesday.
Waddell was taken to Lyon County Jail. He was released on bail, pending filing of formal charges by the Lyon County Attorney’s office.
Waddell already faces charges related to allegedly filing false expense claims.
Those charges, filed in September by the Kansas Attorney General’s office, allege Waddell provided false information on vouchers and reimbursement forms for goods purchased for personal use, the Register reported.
The counts also contend that Waddell requested reimbursement for food that should not have been paid for by the Woodson County Sheriff’s Department. The charges are still pending.
Waddell announced his resignation, effective Wednesday, after those charges were filed.
Former Allen County Undersheriff Shannon Moore is filling the final two years of Waddell’s term. She joined Woodson County’s Sheriff’s Department in late October.
