ESU women beat Evangel

Emporia State finished off the ESU Tip-Off Classic with another blowout victory Saturday night, beating Evangel 84-59.

Cassondra Boston led the Lady Hornets with 23 points and was named the Classic’s MVP. Sophia Lenard scored 16 points, and Negesti Taylor had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and was also named the to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Hornets shot 50.9 percent and held Evangel to 34.6 percent shooting.

Kara Blakenship scored 31 points to lead Evangel.

The Lady Hornets improved to 3-0 with the win, and Evangel dropped to 4-2.

Emporia State leads Evangel 47-33 in the final game of the ESU Tip-Off Classic.

Cassondra Boston leads the Lady Hornets with 18 points. Boston is 6-for-6 from the free throw line and has made 5-of-8 field goal attempts.

Kara Blakenship leads Evangel with 21 points and is Evangel’s only player with more than four points.

Negesti Taylor has six points for ESU, and Alli Volkens has five points.

ESU shot 54.8 percent in the first half, and held Evangel to 37 percent shooting.
