ESU women beat Eastern New Mexico, 82-50

Emporia State withstood a couple of mini-runs in the second half by Eastern New Mexico, then turned the game back into a blowout, coming away with an 82-50 victory.
Ashley Ferrell posted a double-double in her second ESU game, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Newman also had 11 points, hitting on 4 of 7 shots, and Alli Volkens narrowly missed a double-double of her own with 11 points and nine rebounds. Cassondra Boston led the Hornets with 13 points despite a 4 of 12 shooting effort, and freshman Jocelyn Cummings was also in double figures with 10.
After ENMU got as close as 12 points in the second half, Emporia State finished the game on a 24-7 run. ESU held Eastern New Mexico to 24 percent shooting. However, the Hornets shot only 37 percent from the floor and made just 6 of 22 3-pointers. The Hornets improved to 2-0 on the year; ENMU fell to 0-2.
Halftime
The Emporia State women lead Eastern New Mexico 38-21 at halftime at White Auditorium.
The game was scoreless for two-plus minutes until the Hornets ripped off 10 unanswered points, the last three coming on a shot from beyond the arc by Cassondra Boston. They led by as many as 21 in the first half.
Ashley Ferrell leads the Hornets at half in scoring with nine points, and she and Alli Volkens each grabbed six rebounds. Ferrell hit all four of her first half shots. Jamie Augustyn has seven points, and Cassondra Boston and Rachel Hanf each have six. The Hornets have held ENMU to 26.5 percent shooting, and the Zias have turned the ball over 13 times.
