THE GUINEA PIG DIARIES; MY LIFE AS AN EXPERIMENT by A. J. Jacobs, Simon & Schuster, 2009, $25.

Special to The Gazette
For his first book, “The Know-It-All,” A. J. Jacobs read the entire Encyclopædia Britannica from cover to cover in an effort to learn everything in the world. In “The Year of Living Biblically,” he followed every single rule of the Bible — from the Ten Commandments right on down to stoning adulterers.
Jacobs, Esquire’s editor-at-large, continues his unique style of “immersion journalism” in “The Guinea Pig Diaries.”

The Guinea Pig Diaries remind me of a book by Charles Monroe Sheldon which was first published in 1896 at about the time that William Allen White purchased the Emporia Gazette. The book called "In His Steps" sold over 30 million copies and is still going good. This is a good read. You can read it on line. The first chapter is about a tramp who confronts church going people about what it means to follow in His steps.
