Audit finds university fiscally responsible

Emporia State University and the administration of President Michael Lane were found to be fiscally responsible in a management review released Thursday by the Kansas Board of Regents.
The review, conducted by an independent auditor, found “no identification of inappropriate disbursements,” according to a press release from ESU. The review, conducted by BKD, LLP and paid for by the ESU Foundation, was similar to reviews conducted at Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas. Reviews at Wichita State University and Fort Hays State University are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
According to the release, the review found that accounts at ESU have been administered appropriately by the school. The transactions that were studied involved the ESU Foundation, the National Teachers Hall of Fame, the ESU Alumni Association, the athletics department and the Memorial Union.
“We applaud the management practices in place at Emporia State and commend President Lane and his administration for their emphasis on fiscal responsibility and accountability,” said Regent Jill Docking, chair of the Board of Regents.
