Emporia State had the best offense in the MIAA this season, and the Hornets were rewarded on Wednesday with two hitters on the All-MIAA first team.
Senior outside hitter Arica Shepard was a unanimous selection and junior right side hitter Brittney Miller made the first team for the first time.
Junior setter Ting Liu, last year’s conference player of the year, made the second team.
Shepard won the MIAA Hitter of the Week award six times and leads both the MIAA and the South Central region in kills per set. She is the ESU career record holder in kills, 20-plus kill matches, kills per set and double-figure kill matches. She needs only 10 kills to become just the second player in MIAA history to have more than 2,000 kills and 1,500 digs.
Shepard holds four ESU single-season records. Heading into the Regional today, she is currently fourth in the MIAA in career kills. It is her third straight season to be named first team All-MIAA.
Miller moves up to the first team after being named third team All-MIAA last season. She is fourth in the MIAA in kills this season, averaging 3.42 per set, and was sixth in the MIAA in hitting percentage at .311 this year. She has 915 kills over her first three seasons with the Hornets.
