Contract mediation

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Members of the Emporia school district’s Interest-Based Bargaining team will meet at 4 p.m. today with a mediator to try to negotiate a settlement on the financial segment of the teachers’ contract for the current school year.

The mediator will explain the process to the team and to the public at the beginning of the meeting, which will take place at Mary Herbert Education Center. Teachers and administration representatives then will be taken to separate rooms and the negotiation sessions will be closed to the public, according to Nancy Horst, community relations director for the district.

The mediator will have 30 days to issue a report of the findings.

Other aspects of the contract were approved earlier this year by both sides. The IBB team was unable to reach an agreement on compensation at its last meeting in October, and teachers’ representative Bob Haselhuhn declared negotiations at an impasse.

Please go to Kansas Watchdog.org Buried Treasure by Paul Soutar on August 11,2009. 1.9 Billion Dollars in unencumbered cash should go back to taxpayers and this would stimulate the economy.
