Holiday dinners planned

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Those who don’t have a place to go for Thanksgiving this year or simply want to eat outside their home will have the opportunity in Chase County and in Lyon County through community Thanksgiving dinners.

The Emporia Church of Christ, 12th Avenue and Neosho Street, will be serving a community Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving day. No donations are asked for or expected. Meals will be delivered to those who cannot come to the building. For more information or to arrange delivery call 412-2552 or on Thanksgiving day, 342-3999.

Chase County residents also will have the opportunity to partake in a community Thanksgiving meal. St. Anthony Catholic Church, 601 Elm St., Strong City is hosting its first community dinner for Chase County residents. The dinner is for anybody, not just those who can’t afford a dinner, said Vicki Adcock, a member of the church.

“This is the first time we’ve ever done this,” Adcock said.

The dinner will be served noon Thanksgiving day at St. Anthony’s Hall. The church wants to make the dinner an annual event, Adcock said. The dinner is made possible through community donations.

Those who cannot make it to the church can call for delivery or get a ride to the dinner, Adcock said. Call (620) 273-6111 during the work day or (620) 273-8656 evenings. The church requests that people call ahead of time to inform of their attendance to help with planning, but if they decide they want to come Thanksgiving day, they will not be turned away.
