CHASE COUNTY — The Tallgrass National Prairie Preserve will offer bus tours to view the preserve’s bison that arrived recently from Wind Cave National Park.
The preserve obtained 13 bison from the genetically pure herd. Tours will be given on Nov. 27 — the day after Thanksgiving.
“It will be an opportunity for those gathered for the holiday weekend to have a unique opportunity to enjoy the peaceful prairie environment and view for themselves these magnificent animals,” said Park Superintendent Wendy Lauritzen.
According to a press release by the preserve, the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve herd size is expected to reach 100 bison in eight to 12 years. The herd will be maintained at that level.
