Lady Hornets win opener

Emporia State opened its regular season on Tuesday night with a 89-49 win over Benedictine at White Auditorium.
Cassondra Boston led the Lady Hornets with 20 points and six assists. Freshman Jocelyn Cummings scored 13 points, had 11 rebounds and four assists. Fellow freshman Rachel Hanf scored 12 points and had three assists.
Jamie Augustyn made four 3-pointers and scored 12 points.
Benedictine struggled offensively, shooting just 22.6 percent and committing 24 turnovers.

Half
Emporia State held Benedictine scoreless for the first 5 minutes, 58 seconds and leads 44-23 at half.
Cassondra Boston leads the Lady Hornets with 10 points. Both Jamie Augustyn and Jocelyn Cummings have six points apiece.
Sophia Lenard saw her first action of the season — because of offseason knee surgery — and scored five quick points in one minute.
The Ravens shot just 22.6 percent from the field and committed 16 turnovers.
