Bowyer Blvd.
Tuesday, November 17, 2009
My sister and I got together having a good time and catching up on memories and here is what we came up with.
For Clint’s signs, they need to be at Graham Street and Highway 50 west. That needs to be changed to Clint Bowyer Boulevard (the street), and most important, there should be a museum building for him to display his collection.
He may want to do it free. You can just put a log building there out of old poles. That would be free, too, from the light company. Maybe Lyon County REA would do that? At his beginning race home.
No need to spend the millions the city has been accustomed to. Am really sure his parents would agree to that and so would Clint! Surely, that zoning commission would approve that and not wreck the plan.
Just our opinion.

are you kidding me? Why should Clint Bowyer, Mr. I am above the law, be given a STREET named after him? He has donated things to the community because its a write off for him - not because he necessarily WANTS to do it. Someone should ask him about his respect for authority sometime... he is not the good guy everyone thinks he is...just because he has a VERY small amount of fame does not make him a good guy.

Apparently I missed it. What'd he do that he's "Mr. I am above the law" ?

Oh lets give it a rest people.
Love him or hate him, the kid HAS done good and he has helped several causes in Emporia .If for some reason you absolutely HATE the man, keep it to yourselves. In the whole world -wide scope of things what does it matter? A write off, who cares? It still HAS helped Emporia.
His attitude and respect for authority? You sound like Eric Cartman on South Park.
Some of you Emporians would bitch if you were hung with a new rope!
Do you all think that all the buildings named after Earl Sauder would be in Emporia if not for tax advantages?
How about Trussler?
How about W.A. White house?
Plumb Place?
Newman Hospital?
Jones Park, Jones Center, Jones trust?
It doesn't matter what YOU think about the individual, if they have made an effort to improve the quality of life of our small berg, Why should you bitch? I mean you can complain, but why?

All you haters can shove it where the sun don't shine! Your the same jerks that are always asking what's wrong with the youth of today! Then when a well respected young gentleman like Clint comes around you bash him!!! Shame on you!!! Like corbin says you'd b**** if you were hung with a new rope! Emporia is a better place because of Clint's Foundation & all the small things he does nobody hears about! Believe that Emporia is a better place with Bowyer around & and would be much better place if you haters would all leave town!

Well, I'm asking what's wrong with the presumably "mature" young adult who just walked into the forums censoring their own obscenities.
You know, I'm tired of people tossing around cash and suggesting things like a museum.
So Hawks, are you family, deluded or just so blind that'd you follow anyone around who someone says to.
Oh and I know what's wrong with the youth today, pretty proud to say that I'm still holding onto my girlish figure.
Personally, I think Emporia would be a better place if people would pull their heads out of their butts for once, but you know that is not going to happen. I also think it'd be better if we focused on the people and the organizations that have been around long before Clint was learning to drive. It's like people seem to have forgotten all the other people and all the other organizations we have in this town that makes it great, what makes it function and what makes it better for those that need the extra push onto their already hard working day to day activities that just aren't cutting it anymore.
You don't hear about what they do either. Maybe you should start appreciating that. Or, will you continue to live turning blind eye to their activities until they start sporting a bright yellow coat?

Give Clint a good cause and there is nothing he can't lick.

Well.....some of you have certainly given me a reason to be happy I never achieved any measurable level of success at anything. I would sure hated to have had to listen to all the sour grapes and envious whining I hear every time this man's name is mentioned on here.
If some of you jealous cry babies can show me what you have given back to the town......or have accomplished that caused you to deserve having your name on anything....maybe I will give you more credence. Until then maybe you should stop making yourselves look like kids on a playground.

Funny Biscuit, there is only two people in this entire comment section that were negative, the first poster, who I don't think is coming back and myself.
I want to see where I was being a jealous crybaby though, I think standing up for everyone whose given back to this community is certainly not "sour grapes and envious whining". I think if I was bitter I could not drive in NASCAR that might be the case. (Actually I can't do that either in reality, I'm a chick!) =(
And, I am proud of what I have done for the community. I volunteer at a nursing home, work with abused and neglected children in my free time while I'm working full time to put myself through college (on top of the whole doing the college thing and the workload that comes with graduating in December "Woohoo!") I donate to the humane society, I just recently took food down to the shelter, I have organized food drives within my university department (And got the participating classes extra credit, trust me that was great in their eyes) and my main focus after graduation is to get into the social service system to better Emporia that way.
So, now that you've made me list out everything I have done to the best of my capabilities at the moment, is there anything else you want me to explain, why I still don't want a street named after me or anyone else for that matter, I believe I've stated that somewhere else.
I never said anything about not recognizing Bowyer (here), I just think it's crap everyone praises him on this website so much when there are so many other organizations that dedicate their time, energy and resources to do good and to make lives better but yet...they're ignored.
By the way, Angel Trees are up. ;)

Toxic Pink
My comment was not intended to be limited to just this thread but all the threads that have come up mentioning his name of late. I apologize for not making that clear.
I realize there are many unsung heroes who every day do things that make Emporia a better place to live. I like to think that occasionally I might even be one of them myself. But naming a street or erecting a sign after all of them might prove to be a bit cumbersome. Besides....why would anyone not living here have any reason to know that Emporia was the home of Toxic Pink or biscuitboy....and furthermore why should they care.

ToxicPink (anonymous) says...
Which is why throughout all these threads and discussions I have been against naming a street or putting up signs.
I've said it before, and I'll say it now again...only history, true meaningful history needs to be put on a sign. And the roads just don't need to be messed with.

Maybe Emporia could be famous for starting something else our society needs besides Veteran's Day, how about Cry Babies Anonymous? There seems to be a real need for a group like that in this city!

I believe that 6thAve./50Hwy. needs to be re-named Clint Bowyer Blvd.
It is the main drag that runs from one side of Emporia to the other.

This is a serious suggestion. Rename Industrial Rd to Clint Bowyer Rd. Nobody named Industrial is going to get their feelings hurt.....It's misnamed now with only one industry located there.....Its a relatively new street so changing its name won't step on any history....and the number one reason to do is because it is a I-35 exit street. Therefore the exit signs on I-35 will be changed (presumably by the Highway Department) to read ....Clint Bowyer Dr.--2miles.......Clint Bowyer Drive--1 mile......Clint Bowyer Drive--next exit....therefore getting more bang for the buck . In addition, such a change would be a boon for the local office supply stores as all the letterhead and envelopes for all the business located on Industrial would have to be changed to Clint Bowyer Drive. Thank You in advance.

Maybe we should look into what the cities surrounding Emporia would do, or pay for a study before we do anything drastic.

should be re-named Clint Bowyer Blvd.

just, the left turns are why I suggested the roundabouts would be a good idea for "Clint's Curves" or "Clint Bowyer Corners". Wouldn't want to annoy Clint by attaching him to the circles but may be a good zimmerman marketing sign would be a wrap around that says "Emporia, Kansas: Proud Birthplace of NASCAR'S Clint Bowyer." Good manners would suggest they obtain Clint's permission before they decide to use his name but maybe it's not done that way in Illinois.
