EDMOND, OKLA. — Tim Niles couldn’t miss Monday night at Central Oklahoma.

But on Emporia State’s final possession of the night in double overtime, the Bronchos forced the ball out of Niles’ hands. Dustin Andrews was stripped at the buzzer and Central Oklahoma escaped with a 116-114 win.

The Hornets’ empty final possession was the first time all night they, in particular Niles, didn’t have an answer.

Niles made all eight of his 3-pointers and scored a career-high 45 points, nearly doubling his career high of 23.

Taylor Euler forced a second overtime with a 3-pointer with nine seconds left in the first overtime when UCO expected ESU to go to Niles.

Lamar Wilbern forced the first overtime with a tip-in with 5.2 seconds left.

The Hornets made a school record 78.3 percent of their 3-pointers, making 18 of 23 attempts.

Central Oklahoma nearly matched ESU, making 14-of-26 3-pointers.

Tyler Phillips scored the game-winning points for the Bronchos, making two free throws with 10.1 seconds left to break a tie.

Matt Boswell scored a career-high 16 points off the bench on 5-of-5 shooting, and Wilbern, who fouled out in the first overtime, also scored 16 points. Jordan Stout was a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range and chipped in a career-high 12 points.

Emporia State will get a rematch with Central Oklahoma next Monday at White Auditorium.
