Hornets’ goal: play tougher schedule

When the MIAA got only two teams into the South Central Regional tournament last season, Emporia State coach David Moe theorized the solution was to beef up the Hornets’ nonconference schedule.
Last season, the Hornets played a weak nonconference slate, playing two NAIA teams and two Division II teams, Newman and Eastern New Mexico, a team that won only four games last season.
Even though the Hornets finished third in the MIAA, and the MIAA went 18-7 against other teams in the region, that was not enough to get more than two teams into the Regional.
