H1N1 clinics coming to area schools

Monday, November 16, 2009

School-aged children whose parents have filed consent forms will be eligible to receive free H1N1 vaccinations as long as supplies last, according to information from public health nurse Renee Hively.

The health department's tour of the area will include stops at 24 schools, beginning with St. Joseph in Olpe and William Allen White and Maynard from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Americus schools and and a second round of the clinic Maynard are planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

"Hopefully, we'll have enough vaccine coming to support that many clinics in our aggressive schedule," Hively said.

Initially, state and national health officials had hoped to hold the vaccine clinics early, before the onslaught of the flu season.

"But there wasn’t enough vaccine to be able to even think about that," she said.

For a full story and schedule of stops, see the online or print version of Tuesday's Gazette.

My 3 year old got his nasal vaccine on the 29th of November. The said to come back in a month to get the second dose.

What am I supposed to do? By the time the month is completed, no one will be at the clinic?

Will you accept my child at one of these schools?

My thought exactly, Bryant. My 4 year old had his shot that day, too. I'm going to call the health dept. and see what all those parents of younger children are supposed to do.

You may find you can go to you local physician or another one who is administering the the vaccine. The catch is you might have to PAY for it.
