Romance will fill the air during next week’s Emporia Symphony Orchestra’s concert. The concert will feature international music with a romantic flavor.
The concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday is the second this semester for the community orchestra, which returned this year after a long absence from the community.
Director Jeremy Starr said the first orchestra concert featured standard works, while this concert bring in more romantic sounds.
“The whole idea is, I think, people will go out of the concert humming and tapping their feet,” Starr said, adding that all the music was composed after 1842.
Approximately 500 people attended the first concert earlier this year, and Starr said he hopes the community continues to embrace the orchestra.
“The first one went very well,” he said. “I hope that people realize this is something they can come to all the time. It’s not a huge commitment, it’s four concerts a year. I just think that everybody is ready for it...”
The concert will feature “Nabucco Overture” by Giuseppe Verdi, “Flute Concertino” with soloist ESU flute instructor Kate Bergman, and Russian “Caucasian Sketches” by Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for students and senior citizens. Children under 12 are free. For more information call the ESU Department of Music, 342-5431.
