Canned food drive
Saturday, November 14, 2009
The promise of a “huge” turnout is expected for a canned food contest between Olpe High School and Madison High School today through Nov. 20.
The schools will compete all week to see which group can bring in the most canned goods. The bounty will be given to the Salvation Army, according to Rebecca Fawcett of Olpe High School.
“As part of the food drive, the Student Council has planned an event called ‘Can the Block’ for the morning of Friday, Nov. 20,” Fawcett said. “Between 7:30 and 8 a.m., the students will be bringing in cans to fill an area in the gym.”
For each area they fill with cans, they will earn a class period — a ‘block’ — of fun activities instead of going to class on Nov. 24, she said.
