Ribbon cutting
The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau will be host for a Ribbon Cutting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Newman Regional Health Auxiliary Gift Shoppe, 1201 W. 12th Ave., (east entrance).The new managers are Randy Schneider and Linda Miller, both volunteers. People can register for door prizes through Friday. The Auxiliary Snack Bar is just across the lobby and will feature homemade chili, along with homemade fresh pies. The third floor renovation will be open for tours, also.
The gift shop is owned and operated by the Newman Hospital Auxiliary, a non-profit organization made up of volunteers. Their mission is to finance educational scholarships in the healthcare field and to provide services to the patient-family and staff in the hospital. The community is also invited to come shop “on a day when it is your choice to be here,” said Schneider and Miller in a news release.
Certification
Phyllis Krueger, who works in Southern Lyon County Unified School District 252, has achieved the Certified Child Nutrition Manager 1 distinction for completing 60 hours of Kansas State Department of Education-sponsored Child Nutrition Management Academy training, stated the KSDE news release. More than 350 school nutrition professionals have participated in the Child Nutrition Management Academy sponsored by KSDE Child Nutrition and Wellness. The manager certification is a new recognition program of KSDE.
National award
Thomas Transfer and Storage, Inc., of Emporia, an agent of United Van Lines, has been honored “for exceptional professional achievement,” announced by United president Richard H. McClure at the United Van Lines annual awards program, stated the news release. Thomas Transfer and Storage, Inc., received the President’s Club Award, $2 million level — honoring agents who have generated at least $1 million in sales for the United system during the past year and the Sales Achievement Award as United’s leading sales agent in their specific business lines.
