Chase County earned six spots on the All-Flint Hills League football first team, released Thursday.
The Bulldogs, who finished the year 5-5 with a loss to Olpe in the first round of the Class 2-1A playoffs, were represented on the first team offensive line by center Chance Mildward and guard Ben Green, both seniors, and senior Johnny Lang earned one of the running back spots on the first team. Defensively, end Cody Peterson, linebacker Lang and defensive back Shawn Talkington were selected; Talkington was a unanimous pick.
Northern Heights, which went 4-5 this year, had three first-team selections. Senior tackle Joel Young and junior receiver Nick Mendez were chosen as part of the first-team offense, and defensive back Ethan Grother was a unanimous selection.
On the honorable mention list, Chase County had selections in Peterson at offensive tackle; junior Jace Francka at tight end; Mildward at interior defensive lineman; Green at linebacker; and Talkington at punter.
For Heights, honorable mentions included junior Matt Wiggins at both center and defensive end; sophomore Garrett Schumann at offensive guard and interior defensive lineman; seniors Young and Kyle Gragg at linebacker; and Mendez and junior Gail Lee at defensive back.
